Google Reader Is Going Away

By Sinea Pies   Post update:  Friday March 29th

Do you get your RSS feed via Google Reader?
If you do, you may be sad -- even upset-- to hear that  as of July 1, 2013 Google Reader will be a thing of the past.  Google's explanation for this move is that the service just isn't being used enough. This, of course, is a business move for them. If you are a blog or website owner, you may find that it dramatically affects YOUR business, as a result.

Here is a link to an article by Search Engine Watch explaining more about the change, including some alternatives that you and your subscribers may want to consider: Google Reader Going Away July 1

In the meantime, here's an idea: subscribe to your favorite sites via email as a backup plan. Once you have the new service set, you can always go back to RSS.

UPDATE: Amy Lynn Andrews of "Blogging With Amy" just posted a great article on what the Google Reader retirement means for it's users: Google Reader Alternatives
